The Journey to Costa Rica

A pleasant drive to Gatwick took about one hour. I didn’t want to point out that the driver’s tyre warning light had come on. He might have stopped, we might have had a blowout on the motorway. In actual fact nothing untoward occurred.

On the BA app yesterday it announced the flight delay of 1 ¾ hours. Today the flight took off more or less on time. I wonder what that was all about.

Sitting on an aircraft for 10 ½ hours becomes tedious. I bought the Times and FT weekend to amuse us. I watched a film called Maggi Moores on my Maggi’s recommendation. I wouldn’t pass on that positive critique and I topped up my film watching with a mediocre version of Marlowe starring Liam Neeson.

I also listened to some podcasts. One of which discussed the issue of quitting.

They concentrated on the reasons why people don’t quit even when all the evidence suggests they should. Let’s lists some of those reasons

  • Stick with the familiar, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the hill, the fear of change.
  • I’ve invested a lot in this project I’m not giving up now.
  • Others I can’t think of now at 8pm Costa Rica time.

When is the best time to quit? When you’re at the top, or when you realise you’ll never make the top?

We were one of the first out of the door from immigration and customs. We found the Exodus rep and he told us where to wait. We waited for over 30 minutes while everyone else from our group arrived at where the bus picked us up. The first reason not to go on a group holiday.

We arrived at the hotel, Park Inn, and found our room which had two big queen size beds. The room had everything we needed and much like premier inns in the uk are functional but boring. We sit on the 9th floor. I will take a picture of our view in the morning. Tonight sunset around 5:30 as it does most of the year because we are so close to the equator.

Maggi has closed down for the night while I write this diary in the dark. She has been extremely critical all day principally of me.

My eyes are getting tired now so I’ll finish today and take up the story tomorrow.
