Tortugeuro to Cahuita

The timetable today started with breakfast at 7 am, but we were woken by the noise of Howler Monkeys. A troop had settled in trees above our cabin and disputed the territory with another troop. The noise sounded like growling dogs but much louder.

I walked outside in my pyjamas and bare feet to see if I could locate the source of the row. I managed to capture a couple of photos.

The hullabaloo died down before breakfast started. We then had our last meal at Evergreen Hotel. I won’t miss the food.

As we gathered together to board our water taxi back to the bus depot I looked to the side to witness a Bare-Throated Tiger Heron fishing.

We all embarked on our water bus to return us to the point where we rejoin our land buses to continue the holiday. The trip back on the water was at full speed, with no opportunity to slow for photographs of the wildlife.

At the bus terminus Maggi paid $1 to visit the dirty toilets. We then climbed aboard our small bus and retraced our steps of 2 days ago.

We passed a banana plantation on the way where the workers loaded the bananas from the trees into the packaged gods for sale.

Siquerres, our lunch stop. Why did anyone choose this dump. A big restaurant with no one in it. It looked cheap and it was. Freddy our driver parked directly outside and this was the only good thing the place had going for it. Formica tables, cheap chairs, prison food this is not why I expected from our holiday.

We had driven for 1 ½ hours to arrive here. We had another 2 hours on our coach before we arrived at Cahuita for our 3rd night stop. So we set off this morning at 9am and arrived at our destination at 4 pm. 6 hours travelling and an hour in front of rubbish food.

Again the internet is crap in our new room. We walked into the one horse town that is Cahuita which takes about 5 minutes on a well made track. We needed a water bottle and snacks for tomorrows trek through the local National Park. Once we had shopped we walked across the road and had a drink at the beachside cafe.

In the evening we all met up outside our ecolodge and Freddy drove around town. I had already eaten enough and just choose veggie nachos. The food looked less than exciting that the others ordered and nobody wanted to return to the same establishment ever again.

Freddy drove us home.
