Woke up after last night’s hell and Nick offered to lend me a pair of trousers. Yesterday I had taken the train over to Ricky where Nick with Garry and Jon picked me up.
We drove to our Gatwick airport hotel, 20 minutes from the terminals. WE had a couple of drinks and then I had soup for dinner as I’d eaten a big lunch. I went out to call Maggi. At the end of the call I felt the back of my trousers and my hand was covered in blood. My piles had burst again. I quickly went up to my room where I showered and after awhile managed to stopped the bleeding.
Next I needed to clean the blood off my trousers and underpants. I didn’t totally remove the blood and I now had damp clothes with no alternative trousers. What a pickle.
I explained the predicament to Nick and he offered his spare rain trousers. In the morning I was all in a tizz. I swept up my things and we left the hotel.
On the motorway I suddenly realised I had left the boarding passes behind. Shortly afterwards I realised that I didn’t have my wallet on me. We turned around and headed back to the hotel. The passes lay on the side but no sign of a wallet. Back in the car I found the wallet tucked in my case.
We had driven back for no real purpose as I had the passes on my phone. However it meant we ran out of time to go to our long term parking booking. Instead we put the car in the short term car park at a ridiculous cost.
We breezed through the security etc and the flight passed peacefully. A taxi drove us to the very pleasant Hotel Janus in the back street of old town Riga. Our accommodation had an old fashioned air to it.
None of us had eaten anything since we hadn’t bothered with breakfast at our English hotel and had no time at the airport to grab anything so we wandered off and found an all-day cafe where we all choose the omelette option.
I returned to the hotel to sort out my trousers and check out my arse. I went for a poo and the blood flowed. Luckily nothing had contaminated Nick’s trousers. I then spent the afternoon trying to stop the flow of blood and cleaning my trousers and pants, followed by heavy use of the hair dryer to quickly make them wearable for the next day. In addition I needed to clean the bathroom floor where blood had spilled. What a disgusting mess. I felt that this might completely ruin the holiday.
In the evening I left the hotel with some trepidation and we found a bar and restaurant called Two More Beers. I choose the vegetarian option, a really tasty choice. On return to the hotel there were still signs of bleeding, but less seriously than earlier. I went to bed wrapped in 2 towels.
In the morning I still had some signs of a small amount of overnight bleeding. I showered again and that seemed to clear the problem. I dressed in my cleaned up jeans and two pair of pants reinforced with tissues. I ventured out into the world.
