29th Dec – to Antibes

Islay really wanted to visit Antibes so we all drove there, except Keir who stayed in La Colle.

We parked in the free car park by Fort Carré. We walked in the sun around Port Vauban and saw a large ferris wheel. Islay and Adam headed towards the wheel.

Port Vauban, Antibes

Outside the old walls of Antibes a gated area enclosed the Ferris Wheel and a series of cabins selling food, drink and presents. Adam suggested we take a trip on the wheel so we could look out on Antibes the port and the old town. We all jumped aboard a small swing seat and up we rose. We completed 3 round trips, which was enough.

After our descent the kids started to play with a number of games that involved sliding a chequers piece across a board and scoring points.

It seemed a good idea to eat outside in the sunshine from one of the huts. We found a seat and I ordered 5 hamburgers and chips, plus we had a couple of potatoes and cheese dishes. All very filling and not particularly healthy.

We wandered through this Christmas market and Maggi decided to buy a silver ring from a mischievously looking man.

After we left the fenced in area we walked into the centre of old Antibes. I thought everyone, including me, would like an ice cream. I choose chocolate which had an extremely rich taste.

Adam led us up to the walls that look over the sea. This area has been transformed over the last few years. When we originally came here a road passed along the ramparts. There is still a road but access is extremely limited so now the traffic consists of pedestrians and cycles.

After our tour of the walls we walked slowly back to the cars and returned home.

The evening was spent watching two films both starring James Bateman of Ozark fame. The first film was probably the most ridiculous movie I have ever seen called Who Killed Santa. Two actors without a script have to improvise to the directions of the other performers and then decided who killed Santa.

The other film centred around a plot to blow up a plane with Novichok. A wholly unrealistic story on all levels, although Bateman played his part masterfully. I left for the flat when the kids started to kick off again.
