A day roaming Naples

Breakfast in Naples

We all gathered in the hallway to go out for breakfast. We certainly didn’t want to go to last nights bar. We crossed the road to the clothes market, where you can buy a shirt or trousers for €2 or €3. We entered the cafe and obviously the owner showed his keenness for our business. He placed two tables together and gathered 6 chairs around and then took our order.

The coffee and croissants were both very enjoyable and I expect we’ll return tomorrow.

Walk around Naples

Fortunately the sun came out today and we had no sight of rain. We more or less wandered randomly through the streets of Naples trying to catch a glimpse of the life of the city as we progressed.

The place seems to be a mixture of the dirty, the dishevelled and the busy. The exception to this came when we arrived at one area that had been maintained near the Royal Palace. This ae close to the docks containing some massive cruise ships. One ship waiting there had over 3,000 crew and nearly 7,000 passengers.

We stopped for lunch at a small taverna that served wholesome food. It looked as if it served locals as well as tourists just off the beaten track. after lunch our wanderings became even more aimless. By this time my achilles heel had started to become sore with all the walking and it became time to head back to the Airbnb. On the way back we stopped off at a council run modern art gallery where everyone toured the place except myself. I sat in the cafe and waited.

It seemed almost that more people worked at the place than they had visitors. The cafe also contained a bookshop They only had 6 or so titles but lots of copies of these 6 works. I looked in one or two but they appeared to be incredibly boring. Two people stood behind a counter waiting to serve non-existing customers for these tomes.

Maggi and wandered back to our apartment and waited for the rest of the crew to return.

In the evening we walked around the corner and chose a restaurant that we had tried to enter the night before but had been turned away. Wet ad a very ordinary meal in this establishment.
