The journey
Friday morning and it’s time to leave La Colle and return to the UK. We left Adam to close up the house and make sure all the lights and air conditioning were off. He has done this successfully many times before but because we are there at the same time Maggi is nervous that everything will be done properly.
The drive along the A8 and A7 only had a couple of minor jams as a result of the heavy traffic. Even Lyon’s didn’t represent a problem on the circular route, fortunately we passed through before rush hour.
We arrived at our hotel La Huchette, just outside Maçon, mid afternoon and had a quick dip in the pool.
Meal at La Huchette
We stayed here last September and enjoyed a very nice meal. Today we ate outside and fortunately the heat from the day had dissipated so we could sit comfortably and appreciate a lovely meal served beautifully by professional staff.
We had the normal amuse bouche to begin with and I noticed from my previous post at La Huchette that this was the same, but was followed by a second taster of a tomato based soup.

Our beautiful entree consisted of a mixture of beetroot, thin slices of meat, a creamy cheese and thin crispy onion which delighted the palate. I shared my fish dish with Maggi. I chose the monkfish while maggi picked the Dorade. The sauces that accompanied the fish were exquisite.

Our hosts then entertained our taste buds with a dessert amuse bouche which again was tremendously flavourful. Finally Maggi and I shared the pudding.

We crashed out after our glorious meal accompanied by a white wine recommended by the very knowledgeable wine waiter. Excellent all round.
