My birthday and I received lot’s of happy birthday notices. Lot’s of wishes to …”enjoy your special day”. Well I think this has been the quietest ever birthday celebrations. I received no present from Maggi because she hasn’t been able to get out and about and only just received a card from her.

As usual when we arrive in Seattle during the working week then Greg and Alex continue with their work as if we’re not here. Alex left for a trip to London in the evening after being at work for the morning. We saw her briefly in the afternoon between phone calls and packing. I managed a walk up into the shopping area of Queen Anne, via the Cemetery on 8th Avenue.

I had a coffee in a small cafe and then returned home. The rest of the day was spent fiddling around the house.

No cards from or to Maggi today, however we did get out and about a bit more. Maggi and I drove over to University Village where we went to the Apple Shop to enquire about replacing the battery. However, you have to make an appointment and we didn’t want to wait around for 2 hours. Instead we left and walked (albeit slowly) to Starbucks and both of us complained to ourselves about the quality of the coffee.

We then went shopping at QFC the biggest supermarket at University Village and quite a nice shop compared with Fred Meyers. From there we decide to eat out for lunch and went to Bamboo Sushi, also on the Village. We had a bullshitter for a waitress, who should have suggested that we share one of the dishes we ordered rather than 2 dishes the same. The food is fine, but not outstanding.

We had miso soup and vegetarian sushi dish and finally edamame beans. They arrived at the end of the meal and they were covered in oil and chilli. Maggi told the waitress we weren’t happy with the dish and they replaced it with edamame with salt.

After returning home I took Bennett for a reasonably long walk down to the canal and back.

I’m practicing yoga with Adriene every morning down in the basement after I have made breakfast and brought a coffee up to Maggi. It’s day 4 of our stay in Seattle and this has become a routine. Following today’s routine I drove Maggi to Highland Drive and we walked along looking out to sea or should I say Puget Sound. Great views especially on a clear day.

Unfortunately along with the blue sky came some bitterly cold weather. However it is always interesting to walk along Highland Drive with its grand mansions and wonderful panoramic vistas. We came to the final viewing area with the city in the foreground and Mt Rainier in the background.

Arsenal played Manchester City and lost 1-3. Even though the Gunners played quite well at times they failed to cut through enough to make a difference.

In the afternoon I took Bennett down to the ship canal on the other side of Nickerson St. Instead of heading East I turned West and found myself in an industrial area.

The evening consisted of a drive to Queen Anne Centre for the girls to spend 1 hour at the pool playing in the water. They have to demonstrate that they can swim adequately before they are allowed out of the shallow end. They are allowed to jump off the 10 m high diving board, and there is a swing that one of the life guards operates. Sadie and Carrie really enjoyed themselves and Maggi and I stood around watching.
