Today I provided the coffee in bed for Maggi. I eschewed having a slice of bread with my breakfast and just stuck to the yogurt, blueberries and nuts. All very healthy as usual. I have totally lost my appetite for granola or muesli because of their high sugar content.
After breakfast and my morning 22 minutes yoga session with Adriene I started my ablutions which consisted of hair wash, shave, toenail clipping as well as teeth cleaning, the full compliment.
Today’s walk
Dressed and ready for action I set off on a walk along the Pinn River until I reached Eastcote Cricket club where I crossed the pitch and continued along Joel Street. I turned right along a path banked by trees and open land followed this through to Tolcarne Drive and a backpay to Pinner Green. I finally descended into Pinner and picked up a loaf at the old Post Office before trying to pick-up my prescription at Gor Pharmacy.
One quick purchase at Marks and then the return home. On the way bumped into our neighbour Mike who recommended a TV program called 2026 about the Geoworld Cup and Maggi on her way to Waitrose. Later that day someone else recommended 2026 as a funny tv series. I’ll have to check it out.
The afternoon
After lunch I worked with Claude again to semi-automate my diary input and hopefully save time.
I then took the train to town. Maggi had travelled earlier on one of the first trains following the end of the latest round of tube strikes. I arrived at The Social Bite, where we had agreed to meet. This social enterprise cafe opposite Charing Cross Station is easy to find. I sat down and called her to say I’m here and she popped in a couple of minutes later, furious that I hadn’t replied to any of her calls or text messages. She didn’t consider the fact that none of the calls or texts had arrived while I travelled underground. She ended up saying Fuck You, which I don’t think was called for.
Cafe Murano
From our cafe we walked onto Cafe Murano at 36 Tavistock Street where we had booked for a pre-theatre dinner. I enjoyed the minestrone soup and pasta dish I ordered followed by a semifredo chocolate dessert. Unfortunately we sat beside a table of four, one of whom didn’t speak at all while the rest spent their meal constantly talking in raised voices.
The Theatre
The Aldwych Theatre is only a couple of minutes walk from the restaurant and again Maggi loudly complained that I didn’t follow Google Maps when we made one mistake which took us 50 steps out of our way. This really pissed me off.
We sat in our stall seats early to watch the performance of Shadowlands starring Hugh Bonneville. The play had some amusing lines and took us back to a middle class generation of Oxford Dons. The play re-told the story of C S Lewis and the short-lived love affair he had with an American woman. He a confirmed bachelor before her arrival became smitten by her but had to overcome his typical inhibitions to finally realise how much he loved her. His love burst out when she had cancer and lie in her hospital bed. A wonderful three year remission allowed them sometime together before she died. He then began to question his deep religious beliefs which he spouted for years. An OK play but no more.
