Woke up feeling slightly achy and a bit under the weather. However, Steve had invited me to the Arsenal v Newcastle match at the Emirates.
I drove down to my usual parking place and met up with Steve and found that Garry was with him. We had a chat in Cost Coffee for more than 45 minutes before heading off to the match. For the first 20 minutes Arsenal were terrible. They kept giving the ball away and looked very nervous. Newcastle looked by far the better team and controlled the game. Playing out from the back just wasn’t working. Then in a move that started with Ramsdale when it seemed he was about to give the ball away the gunners swept up the pitch and a cross from Saka to Lacasette and Arsenal were 1-0 up. They really didn’t look back from that moment onwards.
The final score was Arsenal 3 Newcastle 0.

I left the match a few minutes early because Mark and Fiona were picking us up to go to the Jones’s house for dinner. I managed to return by 6 pm and the Riley’s arrived by 6:30. We were all supposed to make a course. Maggi had made a pie and Matt had made a lovely main course with a tremendous sauce. Fiona had bought some very average charcuterie and some bread. You can always rely on her to put in the minimum of effort.
The evening was all very pleasant although I was a long way from being the life and soul of the party. I only drank a little and after a while I adjourned to the sitting room and fell asleep. We didn’t leave until almost midnight when the idea of coming early and leaving early had gone out of the window.
