Briggs leave, Adam & family arrive

We drop Biddy and Geoff off at Nice airport on Friday (28th) where they can pick up the tram to take them to their hotel in Nice.

We give them all the necessary hugs and say goodbye. It was easy to have the Briggs with us for 4 days. We went out for a meal each day so there wasn’t a lot of work to do in the house. Biddy usually helped clear up for breakfast etc and whatever else we ate.

We dropped off at Leclerc to shop for the weekend on the way home. Maggi complained that she felt sick. By mid-afternoon she had visited the toilet half-dozen times.

We had arranged to see Madeleine and Tom in the evening but by 6pm I called Madeleine to say that Maggi couldn’t make it. She went to bed around 8 pm. So a quiet evening for us.

Thankfully on Saturday (1st April) Maggi had recovered. We also found out that Geoff had suffered from the same tummy bug and had spent a long time on the loo.  It must be connected with the hamburgers they both had at St Eloi.

We called  Madeleine and suggested we meet up in Valbonne and lunch together.

We both arrived at the same time and walked to the Arcades restaurant together. We sat in the sun and had a main course of fish. All very nice for food and company.

Came back and watched Arsenal win 4-1 against Leeds. This keeps them 8 points ahead of Manchester City while they have played a game more than City.

Adam and family are due to arrive in the evening. They drove down from Glasgow to Luton this morning and are due to arrive here around 10 pm. It makes for a long day for the whole family.

On arrival the whole family ate the snacks we had provided, including the ratatouille that Maggi had prepared earlier. We ended up retiring at 12:30, the latest we have adjourned to our beds in a long time.

Sunday 2nd April Maggi and I awoke around 8 in the flat. I did my normal yoga exercises with Adriene. The whole family, except Maggi and Keir, walked down to the village for a couple of baguettes. We then came back and set off for Nice and parked in the normal place at the end of the port.

Carlo Felix of Savoy

Just in front of a Victorian building near the headland stands the statue of Carlo Felix Duke of Savoy, Piedmont, Aosta and King of Sardinia from 1821 to 1831. At that time Nice was part of Savoy which had its capital in Turin. Carlo was a noted reactionary and put down any sign of rebellion in Piedmont and Sardinia. Not one of the good guys.

We all wandered around the headland to the flower market for lunch. We ate our very average meal with the sun beating down on us. I was glad to leave in order to escape the sun.

A short walk brought us back to the Promenade des Anglais. Adam swam in his wet suit and Maggi and I sat on the promenade.

Islay, Keir Maggi and I left the others behind and we set off back to La Colle. A successful busker had created a crowd for his performance on the promenade.

Monday and we fly back to the UK. It’s another lovely day with the sun shining on us. We have been we extremely lucky with the weather throughout our stay.

I take a walk with Keir and Finn. We visited Mythic Motors to look at the classic cars which they are renovating. From there we have a drink at St Eloi. By the time we get back Adam and Sarah have returned from Lidl. Sarah makes our lunch.

Our flight is delayed and we set off 1 hour late, just in time for the sunset.
