Col de Vence walk & Susie and Barbara arrive in the evening

A cloudy start to the day. We gathered a few bits of fruit and headed to the hills of the Col de Vence.

I had planned a circular walk, but when we arrived and found no mobile signal I abandoned that idea. Instead we decided to follow the GR51 for 1 hour, eat our picnic and walk back along the same route.

The path followed steadily down hill from the car park. As usual, the French signage made it easy to keep to the way. As we walked we were amazed by the number and variety of butterflies and wild flowers. The birds sang and kept us company on our mini trek.

On the way back Maggi picked some of the wild flowers. I thought this might be illegal, but we were alone on the trail until we reached the car park.

We stopped off at the new patisserie on the edge of La Colle for a coffee and cake. I can’t see this business lasting very long. They played pre-war blues and the place had no atmosphere. The decorations reminded me of cheap bling.

Susie and Barbara’s plane suffered repeated delays. We eventually picked them up at 7:15 when they were due to land at 17:30. When all round Europe airlines have been cancelling flights then this isn’t so bad.
