After remaining free from Covid from Monday to Friday last week my movements were not particularly restricted. Maggi was initially more or less confined to the bedroom. However she did get up each day to cook the evening meal. I think it gave her a sense of purpose. She always finds it difficult not knowing or not doing anything. However as Maggi became more active, staying away from each other became more bizarre and difficult. If Maggi was in the kitchen watching the television I was upstairs.
That all changed on Monday morning (20th) when I tested positive for the first time. We could now spend time together not only in the same house, but also in the same room. However, I still managed to get out for my regular walks, because although I registered as positive for Covid I felt fine and still had lots of energy.
While I had managed to go out and see Matt on Tuesday last week and take Bernard to the Southbank Centre all other activities have been curtailed. We haven’t had a face to face contact with any friends in all this time. Maggi’s best view has been our winter garden.
We had planned to go to Southsea to see Lynda, but we cancelled that excursion. Today (Wednesday 22nd) Maggi ventures out of the house for the first time for 10 days. She has finally registered negative for Covid and I’m taking her to the dentist, which is not the most exciting trip in the world. The appointment is scheduled for 3 hours. I don’t envy her at all. The very idea of such a time in the dentist’s chair feels me with dread. It’s not because I feel in danger or am worried about the pain. It’s just how uncomfortable it is with all the drilling, poking, tugging etc that goes on.
Alex and I
It seems ages since I spoke to Alex properly. I can’t remember the last time she phoned me except when she can’t get hold of Maggi. And when that happens I am soon ignored by both of them. I don’t feel alienated from Alex by this lack of interest on her part. I think of it as my failure. Now I look back to our time in Hawaii together I can’t remember having anything other than a functional conversation with either Alex or Greg. Maybe I’m being a bit paranoid about our relationship disintegrating. Maybe it has always been poor and I’ve just not noticed it. I’ll keep a closer watch into the future.
