Easter Weekend 2023

Good Friday was a quiet day. Pottered around and in the afternoon played bridge at Richard’s House. I brought the cake and was slaughtered mostly due to poor cards.

On Saturday we set off to Windsor Great Park Virginia Water Car Park just before 1 pm. We waited a few minutes for Mel and Graham to arrive with family and dog.

The dog has grown and is now a strong beast and a bit of a handful. All of us were hungry and we sat down on a bench to have our picnic lunch in the shade. Despite the sun breaking through the trees it was still quite chilly. I chatted to  Graham while Maggi spent her time with Melissa and the kids did their own thing, which was basically running around ahead of us.

I bought lollies and coffees for everyone and Graham helped me carry them back to where the rest were waiting. It is difficult to get a lot out of Graham. Sometimes it is just hard work. We spent 3 hours with them before we returned to the car park to go home. The return journey was surprisingly easy with very little traffic on the M25.

Messed around in the evening with Maggi watching more episodes of Night Agent. Just after midnight Adam arrived with the family. They went straight to bed, all of them very tired. Even Maggi didn’t come downstairs as she had fallen asleep waiting for them to arrive.

On Sunday Maggi and I drove over to the Jones’s and had lunch at the Red Lion. Mandie was there but the Rileys didn’t show up. I choose the vegetarian Sunday lunch and went back to Matt’s place to watch the Arsenal v Liverpool match. Arsenal we’re 2-0 up at halftime but ended up drawing 2-2.  This gives Manchester City the chance to win the league title.

On Monday we (the whole family) went to the Imperial War Museum situated just near Elephant & Castle. Adam drive all of us and we parked quite a distance from the museum. It rained on our walk both there and back. We stopped at a McDonalds for a coffee and the kids had a burger. The new place hadn’t been renovated for a long time and looked very sad.

The kid’s priority was to see the war games exhibition. Everyone but me toured the Holocaust show. I really didn’t want to see the misery associated with the suffering of this horrible time in the life of Europe. After eating our sandwiches in the schools dining area the others went round more of the museum.

While the museum is a learning experience I also felt that it glorifies war to a certain extent. Nice shiny vehicles, uniforms, shells and it doesn’t explore the horrors of war, except the holocaust.

We returned home and ate spaghetti bolognaise that Maggi had prepared already. Sarah helped wash up but left the sink in a real mess that I ended up cleaning.
