First Days in La Colle

Arrived yesterday the 27th after one night at home. Maggi and I met Adam and family at Gatwick airport. They had flown down from Glasgow way before dawn and consequently knackered.

EasyJet flight a bit delayed but nothing special. We arrived to pick up our car at Avis. We wandered around the parking area but couldn’t find it. Felt very stupid when the Avis guy showed us that it sat in the bay indicated on the ticket.

We are now driving a convertible BMW 4 series without knowing how to open the roof. The glorious weather here makes it very tempting to drive with the wind in one’s hair and the sun beating down.

Once we had sorted things out we walked down to Pizatti on the St Paul road for dinner which made everything very easy.

Some of us sat down to watch the Arsenal v Ipswich match on our return. In the first half the gunners found it difficult to breakdown the Ipswich defence but walked down the tunnel 1-0 up.

In the second half our electric supply started to play up. We must have reset the switch about 6 times. Each time the internet has to reset as well and this takes a few minutes. All very frustrating. I have up watching a very dull match with 15 minutes to go. The score didn’t change.

28th December

Our first duty was to get some shopping for a couple of meals along with some household essentials. We split up the tasks and Adam and family drove to Leclerc while Maggi, Keir and I drove to Grand Frais.

Shopping finished we had a nice casual meal in the garden and in the sun. What a privilege to be eating out midday at the end of December. It reminds me of how lucky I am to both afford it and experience it.

Lunch in the garden – heaven

Maggi and I then drove to the garage next to Leclerc and pumped up the car tyres so they no longer showed a warning.

Our next activity meant we all walked from La Colle up to St Paul, except Keir. In between the two spots are a number of steep hills. The path would be much easier if there had been fewer downhill sections on the way.

A nice drink at the Cafe in the square with the young boules players throwing and cheering around us.

Once we had finished our drinks we walked up to the bus stop and caught the 655 back to La Colle.

Maggi made up a spaghetti dish of prawns, mushrooms, tomato sauce,

Onions and garlic which I really enjoyed. I even remembered to tell her.

The bulk of the family wanted to watch another Christmas movie. I left to read in bed.
