After breakfast we headed on up to the hills to meet the campers. They had just arrived. Garry assured everyone that this was only a 10 mile walk. Steve was driving back and was assured that this was a 4 hour walk. In actual fact the walk was more gruelling than yesterday because it was a series of hills and descents.
In fact the tour lasted for 5 ½ hours, 11 miles but most significantly it included 2000 ft of ascent. All of those ascents appeared to be extremely steep. In fact Steve and I opted out of one of the later ascents. We were all pretty shattered at the end of the walk. The result was we ended up in the pub at the end of the walk. Matt had intended to to drive back on the evening after the walk but he was too knackered.
Tonight was our turn to drive down the road to the nearest pub to the campers, The Pound. I volunteered to drive as all the others were much keener drinkers. The pub was noted for its pies. You chose the pie, then the type of potatoes, then the choice of veg and finally the gravy to accompany to all. Not cordon bleu but very acceptable.
I was quite nervous about driving someone else’s car but managed it successfully and had a large shot of Ian’s whiskey when we returned to the B&B.
