Maggi always wants to leave earlier than necessary to get to the airport. Our scheduled flight to Nice from London City due to depart at 16:30, and she wanted to leave at 12:30.
I baulked at thus early departure date which would leave us with 3 hours at the airport. To prove it wasn’t necessary to depart so early I checked out TfLgo and they reported significant problems on the metropolitan line.
We therefore decided to leave immediately and find out the situation at Pinner. We arrived at the station and the noticeboard told us we only had to wait 2 minutes for the next Aldgate train. What’s the fuss we thought. The train arrived and announced it would not proceed past Harrow. A fire at Neasden had disrupted all travel between Finchley Road and Harrow.
A friend who I’d bumped into suggested we go to Harrow and Wealdstone and pick up a train to town from there. We nipped outside the station and jumped in a taxi. We needn’t have worried.
The journey to London City airport from Harrow and Wealdstone took 1 hr 5 mins. We saw large plumes of smoke what we guessed as the Neasden fire. The overground line into London from Harrow and Wealdstone takes ages, they are approximately 12 stops and eventually you arrive at Euston.
The flight didn’t leave on time. French air traffic controllers took the blame. We ended up landing about 25 minutes later than expected so not too bad.
We stopped in Cagnes sur Mer to grab a bite to eat. We both ordered salad as the safest option. I won’t return to this restaurant.
Everything seemed to be okay when we arrived at the house.
