Madeleine and Tom 50th anniversary

Yesterday Heln tried to buy Maggi and I a coffee at St Eloi, but failed because the restaurant wouldn’t accept payment via ApplePay.

Today we visited Grand Frais the upmarket supermarket in the Polygone Centre ion Cagnes-sur-mer. in a very relaxed atmosphere we first of all had a walk around the centre. I actually fancied a coffee but we couldn’t see anywhere we wanted to stop.

We walked into the shop and bought the few bits and pieces we needed and to my surprise Helen paid the €38 supermarket bill. maggi then bought the cake and bread and I descended to the car park with the shopping. I loaded the car and waited. I pulled out my glasses and found one of the arms had fallen off the spectacles.

I found the screw that had fallen out. We returned home.

I watched the Lions narrowly defeat the Australian team with the last play of the match. In the meantime we had lunch of Gazpacho and a few bits and pieces of lunch. Maggi and I laid the table and and prepared the lunch. at the end of the match and the meal Maggi and I cleared away.

I watched as Helen looked at her phone and learnt all about Donald Trumps latest misdemeanours. some people have arranged their priorities all wrongly. she seemed oblivious to the fact that everyone else helped and she didn’t bother.

Glasses fixed

After Maggi and I had cleared up we drove towards LeClerc where we had located an optician. Maggi walked in and the kind man repaired my glasses but putting the screw back in place. we couldn’t do it but he had all the tools and didn’t charge.

A lazy afternoon. A quiet swim. I fixed a compute problem that had been bugging me for a while. Perhaps I can move on.

Madeleine & Tom 50th Anniversary

We set off towards Cabris to the Aux Vieux Chateau restaurant the venue for their event in order to arrive at 7pm. Maggi decided to drive. All went well until we arrived close to the restaurant and we looked for a parking place. Maggi badly judged the width of the road and scrapped the car against the nearside wall. This damage won’t be removed by buffering with T-Cut or its French Equivalent.

I took over the final parking and we walked the short distance to the restaurant. We saw some old familiar faces including Peter Lewis, Jilly and David Best, Sue and Keith Eldelman.

Also at the do were Madeleine’s sister and brother-in-law. Over the years I have seen this pair on many occasions organised by the Richardsons, but I’ve never spoken to them. I’m not sure whose fault that is, Maybe because they look so snooty the I’ve never bothered to approach them and maybe because I’m not very important that they’ve never bothered to approach me.

I sat next to Madeleine and Maggi while Peter and Celine faced us on the other side of the table. Peter used to work with Mad and Tom, while Celine doesn’t speak English. We had encountered this same couple at the Best’s house a few months ago. He is quite chirpy and amongst other things told us about the book(s) he is writing.

He explained that he now reads a book and he directs his attention to the structure of the novel more than anything else to see if he can make more out of his stories.

The food at the event tasted good. Of particular highlight, the cheese course which had an introduction by the Maitre d’Hōte. He explained the 5 cheeses on our plates. They tasted very good, I can’t remember anything he said apart from the fact that the last cheese had an association with his grandmother.

Back home

Alex and family had made themselves at home by the time we arrived. As usual the place had turned from a neat and tidy establishment into an utter mess with shoes and clothes scattered around.

After the usual greetings and hugs we ascended to bed. I had a terrible night’s sleep. Maggi complained about may snoring and left to sleep on the sofa downstairs. I then spent a couple of hours suffering from indigestion.

On Sunday I spent most of the day in bed suffering from lethargy, either due to something I ate, too much to drink or just the bad night.
