Meet the ECC Committee

  • by

We met at Kings Cross after I had walked up Pentonville Road towards Angel to Amwell Street to see the Amwell Fig, of of the Great Trees of London. It was a bitch of a day. The rain was hurtling down and it was really unpleasant climbing Pentonville Road. I found the tree without any difficulty and took a couple of snaps.

The tree looked as if it needed some TLC with no foliage and the supporting structures to keep it upright. Apparently there were three trees and they have merged into one.

After visiting the tree I walked back the way I had come and stopped for a short time to look at the the local architecture which was very attractive.

Inglenbert Street

I then walked back up to Pentonville Street and caught the bus back to Kings Cross. I was still early and after a coffee met Jon outside Starbucks. We wondered if the others would turn up. Soon Garry was there but no Nick. We thought we have to leave without Nick. He joined us later. He said he would have to return to and stay in Southwold rather than with Caroline in Cambridge. She would not let him to return.

We took a chance and took the tube to Higbury and Islington to visit the exhibition at the Estorick Collection. It was an exhibition of the Futurist Painter and artist Trullio Crali. Futurism has received a bad press since the war but he carried on with his beliefs after the war into the 1960s despite all it’s negative associations with Mussolini.

Before making the tour of the Collection we sat down and chatted and had a bite to eat. We all decided that making the decision of whether to go to Galway or Rijeka in Croatia. was not possible because of CoVid19 and that we should postpone the choice until later in the year. Perhaps we won’t go at all.

After the exhibition and the incessant rain we jumped into the Hope and Anchor on Upper Street and had a few drinks and then returned home.
