Both of woke up to a horrendous stink in our bedroom. It made Maggi feel ill. I think the actual smell woke me. I have never been woken by a smell before.
We couldn’t stay in the room so went down to the reception at 6:15 to report the issue. The two brothers who own the property told me that a neighbour emptied their septic tank onto the garden to avoid paying the collection fee.
By the time we returned after breakfast the smell had largely dissipated but the brothers who owned the place had promised an upgrade. I saw the new room at midday and was happy to move rooms.
I didn’t join the walking party today because I didn’t feel on top of the world. I coughed all during the night which continued from the day before. Better to laze around than exert myself.
Myriam picked me up around one and we drove to meet Maggi and the rest of the crew at a taverna up in the hills. The restaurant had approximately 35 tables many more than I would have expected in a small village. A pleasant lunch with the normal salad etc and topped off with an ice-cream.
Myriam drove Maggi and I back into town where I bought some useless throat lozenges. We found a bar for an enjoyable iced cappuccino. As we finished Myriam called to see if we wanted a lift back to the hotel. We accepted the offer.
We messed around for a bit and then walked to the beach where we swam for a short period. The wake from one of the ferries knocked us over and nearly swept away my sandals.
Early evening Helen, Matt, Maggi and I walked into town for a drink. We sat on the harbour side and watched the sunset.

A pleasant enough meal with sausage and meat balls culminated with a small bottle of ouzo. Finally a 25 minute walk back to the hotel.
