Today was a day of choice. Several options presented themselves. I choose snorkelling. Maggi picked a tour with indigenous people.
Only two of us selected the snorkelling, Jacqui and myself. 5 others joined us including an Australian. Jacqui and she shared colleagues in the legal field.
The snorkelling guide took us to two areas. In the first area I wandered around aimlessly and just saw random fishes. They meant nothing to me. Some of them had more interesting markings. I couldn’t name any. I climbed on the boat first, about 20 minutes before anyone else.
When we moved to the second site I tightened the mask so very little water penetrated and I stuck to the team leader. This time we saw a large sting Ray which the guide disturbed from the covering of sand. A dramatic moment as it shot off into the distance from only a few feet from me. We then followed a green turtle as it made its way along the sea bed. The turtle must have been a teenager as it wasn’t that big. Finally the guide pointed out a flying gunarde which he disturbed on the floor where it was camouflaged. As it left its hidden position its arms stretched out revealing fluorescent blue markings on what appeared to be wings. Very dramatic to see.
We landed and our guide offered us fresh pineapple which a raccoon tried to steal. I beat it off with the end of the pineapple.
Jacqui and I had a quick lunch together before we returned to our rooms, separately.
Maggi came back and then at 6 pm we all gathered together and went for a cocktail and meal in downtown Cahuita at exactly the same places as yesterday.
Most of us had red snapper. I couldn’t eat all my meal.
