Our visitors leave

  • by

After Jane, Garry, Gill and Mark left we spent some time clearing up an sorting out the house and flat. Maggi pointed out that neither couples asked for any cleaning materials to make the bathrooms shine. Their accommodation was by no means filthy but they could have done better.

Later in the day we drove to our parking spot by the baie des anges with the idea of having a swim. When we arrived we decided that wasn’t a good idea because the sea was far too rough.

Rough seas at Villeneuve-Loubet

The red flags flapped in the wind and none of the normal bathers had entered the water. We walked along the promenade and then sat for awhile watching a group of surfers enjoy the waves.

Sunday 7th

Our morning weather greeting had switched to constant rain. We decided that the best bet was to go to an exhibition so we chose the Fernand Léger museum in Biot as our destination. We just found a place to park in the car park. I guess that many people were looking for a place of shelter on such a dreadful weather day.

When we came out of the museum Maggi called Helen and we drove over to the AirbnB she and Issac had rented in Antibes. We stayed for about an hour and they kindly made us a cup of tea from Helen’s supply of tea bags brought from England.

That summed up the day.

Monday 9th September weather changed again

We met up with Helen, Issac, Madeleine and Tom in Antibes at a tourist restaurant we have been to before. Very underwhelming. Standard fare is about all you get.

Spent a couple of hours with them and walked to the post office where Tom wanted to post something. Took the picture below and then left to walk back to the car park at Fort Carée.

Sunny day in Antibes with Issac, Helen and Madeline, while Tom popped into the PO.

Tuesday 10th September another glorious day

A trip to the beach where Maggi wanted to swim and indulge in a cocktail. All very nice. Two of the estate agents came to see the property.

Wednesday 11th Lovely lunch

We paid another visit to Les Jasmin in Bar sur Loup and enjoyed another marvellous lunch. This time Maggi had the starter cocktail and I stuck to water.

The main dish seemed so simple but the broth was so tasty that it heightened the flavours to such a great extent that I loved it. I’m not sure what was in the parcel but it was divine. Such a treat to eat I felt very privileged that we could afford it.

At the end of the meal we travelled down to Pont sur Loup where we parked and walked along the side of the river to relax to the sound of the river flowing past our feet.

Thursday 12th September more interaction with estate agents.

We met the novices at Mas Provencal and they gave us a very poor evaluation of our property. We then decided to visit Giraf in the main road of La Colle. He immediately came up to the house and had a look around. He didn’t take any measurements or photos but said he had someone in mind for the property. We told him we would be leaving La Colle the next day so he arranged to have the woman visit that evening. She seemed happy with the property but her husband is incapacitated in Monaco with a bad back. The people from Orpi gave us a better evaluation than Mas Provencal so we will see what happens.

At lunch Mark and Fiona joined us. Mark probably drank too much for somebody driving but he managed to arrive at his destination all in one piece. Pleasant launch in the sun with Maggi cooking a pasta dish with squid.
