Weekend in Southsea

Yesterday I went to see the doctor. After an examination she gave me prescription for penicillin which will hopefully kick this horrible hacking cough into the dust. I’m fed up with embarrassing myself with this nasty sound and spitting into a tissue. She also booked me for an X-ray at Northwick Park. I took the train down there almost immediately and saw the radiologist within 10 minutes.

A game of bridge at Richard’s place in the afternoon completed the day’s entertainment.

On the Saturday morning we set off for Southsea to see Lynda and Dave. We arrived about 11:30 and luckily found a parking spot just round the corner from their home. Lynda didn’t seem to stop talking all Saturday and until we left on Sunday lunchtime. She has become ever more critical towards Dave. She seems to be annoyed that his bad knee is due to his excess weight.

After lunch I had an afternoon nap. The cough still getting me down and making me somewhat lethargic.

Early evening Lynda had booked us into a birthday do for one of her friends, Jo. Not only did we turn up but Matthew and Bex also showed up. In fact there was only three other people there apart from us. Jo and her husband Jason who holds a senior position at IBM have a massive house just near the front in Southsea so it’s only a short walk from Lynda’s place. We sat around drinking from about 6 o’clock. Jason pulled me aside and showed me his man cave. Basically the bottom floor of the house with his office and another room with a pool table and a massive amount of alcohol.

Dorothy dressed in a leather dress, red trainers, bright red lipstick declared that she was a fashion aficionado. I thought she looked rather odd, but she definitely stood out while the rest of us were all casually dressed. Jo and Jason were very hospitable and we had a pleasant if not exciting evening. I think if you made any effort you could make Jason a friend. I think he probably needs some.

Sunday and the big event started at 11. The women’s world cup final featuring England and Spain. Before the match started Maggi, Lynda and I had a short walk along the nearby promenade.

We returned from the walk just as the match kicked off. While the game played upstairs in the main sitting room Lynda and Maggi stayed in the kitchen and prepared brunch for all of us including Matthew.

The result, a 1-0 loss for our girls disappointed us all, but I believe the better team won.

Shortly after the final whistle we returned to Pinner.
