On 14th January Vikki reached the ripe old age of 50 and Maggi has repeatedly said she wanted to go over to celebrate the actual day. She spoke to Mel several times to make sure that Vikki hadn’t made any arrangements with other friends. On Monday or Tuesday she received the go ahead from Mel that Vikki would love to see her and in the background me.
We set off at 2:30 pm after Maggi returned from town and arrived in Thames Ditton at 4 pm. Only Martin greeted us. Vikki had gone to pick up Ava from school and didn’t arrive back until 5 pm. She apologised and told us how a friend had invited her in and someone else had been hiding there to wish her a happy birthday.
I looked around the maisonette and I have never seen so many birthday cards. The dining table had what seemed like hundreds of cards stood there. With all the cards Martin and Ava had placed 50th Birthday decorations for the special day. We heard all about the party Vikki had had at the weekend with her girlfriends (or some of them) Apparently Melissa had the job of culling those who didn’t come into the very close category.
During the evening three people arrived to say congratulations and bring cards. Most people would describe Vikki as a special person, so open, so positive and inclusive. She exudes fun and people naturally warm to her.
Ava spent a long time laying out nibbles, like a smorgasbord on the kitchen island and after the visitors stopped arriving we ate the contents.

We all enjoyed afternoon/evening in the company of Vikki and Melissa’s families.
