I took the train to Garry’s house and he drove to the Duke of Bridgewater’s monument on Ashridge estate for a 3 hour walk. I came prepared for a rainy day, but to our surprise the rain held off and it turned out to be rather warm and latterly quite sunny.

I managed to walk just under 10 miles today including my trek from home to the tube, which far exceeded all other days this week. We chatted and talked about Garry’s trips to France for the Rugby World Cup.
Ellen Langer
On the tube I listened to a podcast from Zoe featuring the psychologist Ellen Langer who has recently published a book entitled The Mindful Body. I spoke to both Maggi and Garry about this latest Zoe podcast and they were both unimpressed. However I thought she had some interesting things to say.
I have usually thought of Mindfulness as a type of meditation she debunked this idea. She compared Mindfulness as the opposite to mindlessness. She has conducted various experiments that showed how being mindful enhances health and longevity. She recommended mindfulness in relation to your partner that is being curious about your partner’s behaviour and looking for new ways of interpreting their actions.
Maybe I should be curious about how my relationship and her role in my life as a helpmate, a lover, a carer and companion. Can I develop this curiosity and will it improve our relationship only time will tell.
It’s also a wake up to maintain interest in all aspects of my surroundings.
