Today Maggi left the house for the first time since returning from the hospital and the end goal of the journey is the same hospital. We left the house just after 9 for an appointment scheduled for 10:40. We didn’t arrive until 9:30. I left Maggi at the backdoor of the hospital an headed off to find a place to park the car.
By the time I had located a car park and returned to the clinic Maggi was already standing by a bed. We both listened to the patient next door talking to one of the doctors we had met a few times whilst Maggi was an inpatient. The doctor’s patience amazed me. The woman kept going on and on repeating herself and all the time the doctor kept saying we aren’t able to give you any more treatment that will make a difference.
After eavesdropping Maggi’s consultant turned up and didn’t pull the curtain back around the bed. He hardly looked at the damaged hand. He repeated the fact that the damage didn’t include any break. He didn’t say what caused the pain and discomfort. He said he would arrange another appointment. I failed to see what use the meeting had been.
Maggi and I took the lift to the ground floor where she had arranged to meet her friend Liz Knowles. I went for a walk down Tottenham Court Road, bought a Rye and Chai loaf at Ole & Stein and sat down to have a coffee and play sudoko on my iPhone.
After wasting my time for too long I took a roundabout route back to the car park. As I entered the car park Maggi called to ask me to come and pick her up. I drove back to the rear entrance of the hospital where Liz and Maggi waited. We then managed to bundle Maggi into the back of the car bum first.
The journey home took much less time.
