Woke to another scorching day. Our satisfaction with the house is diminishing with every hour. The bathroom towels are poor, the shower doesn’t sit properly in its holder, the second gate key he provided doesn’t work. But we had breakfast and the kids and adults slowly appeared out of their bedrooms.
Islay Maggi and I set off to Diano Marina to look for a bakery and supermarket to pick up some stuff for lunch. I managed to find a parking spot right in the middle of town and had a very quick tour.
Diano Marina appears to be a mix of the old and the new. The old being late 19th C while the new probably comes from the explosion in holidays that began in the 1980s.

Having bought some focaccia and a few other bits we returned to the house for our lunch. Another picnic style lunch with a salad where everyone could pick and choose, meat, cheese, paté or whatever.
In the afternoon and like most everyone else had a siesta while the hottest part of the day passed by. When I came out at 3:30 others continued to sleep or doze and only a few had their eyes open. Maggi and I emptied the dishwasher and immediately refilled it.
Greg had left to return his hire car and fly off to Liverpool. We look forward to seeing him on Sunday.
Adam, Maggi and others badgered me into a game of contract whist while Sarah the game with Gin and Tonics. Our German landlord had chased up the guys who service his internet and that seems to have improved. He booked us into a pizzeria for the evening.
We set off from the house and 40 minutes later we stepped into the restaurant. All of us were drenched in sweat. I vowed that I wouldn’t walk back. The food came in the same category as fuel rather than a dining experience. The charming waiter who wanted to tell us all about his daughter who lied in London somewhere wouldn’t provide tap water.
At the end of the meal Finn, Sadie, Carrie and I hung around until our cab arrived. Bizarrely the taxi dropped us off at the same time as those who had walked up the hill. The four of us not quite as sweaty as the rest. Needless to say I still had a shower on reaching the villa.
