Matt had booked our taxi to Valdemossa for 11am. Before then we had another different breakfast. Today’s central theme consisted of pancakes filled with apple compote and cream. Pascal, our host, allocated two each. I ate my allocation and regretted it. It was all too much to eat given that the pancake was only part of the meal.
Before the taxi arrived Maggi and I had a coffee and a last wander around Soller. By the time we left I had changed my mind about the town. Yes lots of tourists roamed the streets but it still had its own charm and I left with a sad goodbye.
It doesn’t take long to drive from Soller to Valdemossa. Our cab driver left the main road that cuts through the town and slowly drove down the town’s main tourist street inching past the crowds wandering and shopping.
Valdemossa is much smaller that Soller and is close enough to Palma to be on the cruise trail. According to the hotel receptionist these tourists come from the huge cruise ships that dock in Palma and invade the town during the day. By 8 pm they have all disappeared and to find a new set of replacements the next day.
This hotel is more expensive and the room is larger, but it has not been refurbished for a long time. The wobbly shower and discovered tiles show signs of an uninterested management. The very thin towels and toilet paper indicator the place is run by cheapskates. No air conditioning in any of the rooms. I hope it’s not to hot tonight.

We had a drink in a nearby cafe called the Capaccino and then moved onto a restaurant with a very limited menu consisting of more or less starters only. I arrived late and everyone had chosen 4 large pieces of toast to share between two with different toppings. Maggi and I chose the vegetarian option. The food tasted great but very filling. I could only eat two halves of toast and I brought back the other halves for later.

Back at the hotel I had the chance to catch up a little on my lack of sleep last night.
Maggi and I then had a short walk to St Batholmew’s Church at the lower end of the village. Quite a large place of worship for a small town but it had nothing that I could see of particular interest.

We gathered downstairs to drink the bottle of wine we had bought back from our trip to the church and chatted until the time to return to our lunch time restaurant.
Very peculiar to have both meals of the day at the same place, especially when that restaurant has such a limited menu. Essentially in the evening we ate whatever we hadn’t eaten at lunchtime i.e. the starters. We shared everything between us and left around 9:30.
We came out to an empty town. Presumably all the cruise passengers had returned by coach to their ships. The Spanish are noted for eating very late but all the restaurants we saw had closed or were about to close for the evening.
