It’s years since Maggi and I flew to Palma in the Balearic Islands and we looked forward to it. Today we drove over to Fiona and Mark who had agreed to drive to the airport where we would meet up with Matt and Helen.
As he used his car Mark booked the Meet and Greet. I expected him to use the same company we always use, Terminal Parking. However I found out that he had chosen the main Heathrow Meet and Greet service. A more expensive service but it offers much better facilities. You don’t need to call anyone up to tell them you are on your way and possibly wait for them to arrive to pick up your car. When you return to the car park your vehicle will be waiting for you. I’ll be using them in the future.
Having parked we entered the main terminal building and made our way to the bag drop. It became immediately obvious that a problem had arisen. Our flight had been cancelled a few minutes before we arrived at the airport. Before even than we had received an email confirming the problem. Apparently because of the strength of the wind and the danger of lightning air traffic controllers had reduced the number of flights leaving Heathrow.
The very pleasant customer relations guy changed our flight until tomorrow at 9:50 for us and the Riley’s, but Matt and Helen had to accept a slightly later flight.
Fortunately Mark returned to the Meet and Greet people and told them the story. His car hadn’t left the car park so we could drive straight back without having to fetch it from some unknown place. Matt and Helen had to call the taxi firm who had just dropped them off at the airport to come and take them home.
Maggi and I arrived back home over an hour before we should have taken off on our flight to Palma.
In the evening we walked down to Pinner High Street and had a pleasant meal at the Sri Lankan restaurant called Yako. An extra bonus we managed to have a short conversation with Alex during the meal.
We all go on plenty of holidays during the year so losing a day from our 7 nights away didn’t make it a traumatic experience. We all shrugged our shoulders and retreated to our homes for the night. We had to set the alarm for 6 so we could arrive at the Riley’s for just before 7 and return to Heathrow two our before the flight.
