We fly to Mallorca

  • by

An unnecessary early start as Maggi had insisted we set the alarm for 6 am. We left the house at 6:25 and arrived at the Riley’s before they expected us.

Fiona still had wet hair when she came out of the house with her bags. Off we drove and passed through all the checks and then sat down in the lounge for a coffee and breakfast.

The British Airways lounge has one of the best food and drinks selections for silver members like me. I ate too much which does not often happen. I must make sure I have very little of anything for lunch.

We had to go to the very back of the plane, row 37 and wait for everyone to board. At least we managed to put all our luggage in the overhead locker.

We landed uncertain what to do. We decided to take a taxi to the station and proceed to Soller via the scenic train. As we approached the taxi stand we discovered that we stood at 950 in the queue.

We abandoned the taxi and headed for the bus stop. Again we faced a big queue, but we managed to board the second A1 bus to arrive. We squeezed ourselves and the luggage into the bus.

Bus to central Palma

We disembarked at The Spanish Piazza,  beside the train station, walked in and found the train to Soller sold out. The next option had to be the bus to Soller. We wandered around a little looking for the bus station only to discover its location under the Spanish Piazza.

Again jammed into the bus we travelled the 35 minutes to Soller and got out and walked another 10 minutes to our hotel.

On our way I began to think that the infrastructure can’t cope with the pressure from locals and tourists. Do they have enough taxis, buses, trains to move all the people around.

Soller

I had never heard of Soller until we arranged this holiday and had presumed that we would arrive in a small town with few or no tourists. How wrong could I be?   Soller is a small town, although bigger then my presumption, but swarming with tourists. We walked the ten minutes from the bus stop and I didn’t hear a Spanish voice for the first 5 of those minutes.

The small Moonten hotel has quite small rooms and so we’ll have to keep tidy for the next 3 days.

We more or less dumped our stuff and decided to go for a short walk around the town and pick up a small snack on the way. We found a small bar called Boca Fina where we had a beer, cheese and bread. All very good so we booked for the evening.

Back to the Moonten for a quick kip. Helen and Mat arrived in their luxury coach and we returned to the Boca Fina for our evening meal. We ordered a smattering of sharing plates. They came out in dribs and drabs all of which were very tasty.

After our meal we wandered around another part of the town. It was then time for bed.
