The weather stayed sunny and bright for another day of our Dent visit. We took a second valley walk with our hosts. Turning left out of the village instead of right this morning.

This very gentle stroll brought us back into Dent and we stopped at the local museum, shop, cafe for a coffee. As usual I walked with Hedge while Maggi and Ingrid followed on behind. I found myself getting on with Hedge better and better as the days had passed in his company. I wouldn’t the opposite was true for Maggi. The more time she spent with Ingrid the more she felt apart from her old college friend.
In the afternoon Maggi and I set off independently with the intention of climbing one of the hills on the opposite of the dale from the day before. The weather was great and although we didn’t go very high it was nice to get away and have some time on our own.
We climbed past another stream cascading down the hillside.
As we crossed the hillside we came across a derelict building with a young woman working to try and fix a beam into this running down house. She said she was helping her sister out to make the place habitable. She was covered in dust but very happy to be going about her task. Neither Maggi nor I offered to help.
We continued on our upward journey until the path disappeared and we had to guess our way. When we returned to what seemed like a reasonable route we headed back down the hill toward the river and headed back to Ingrid and Hedge’s flat. On the way we encountered a Jaguar that was still on fire and made our way gingerly around the burning wreck.
As we arrived back in the village we heard the firetruck’s sirens blaring away. They had come from Sedbergh which is about 10 miles away.
In the evening Hedge drove us to Sedbergh to have a meal at the Black Bull Inn. We had booked for 8 but arrived early and sat in the bar area which had the atmosphere of a very quiet station waiting room. I asked if we could be seated early and they agreed. I choose the two vegetarian options from the menu while Maggi and Ingrid selected the beef pie as their main course. Due to the size of the portion Maggi couldn’t finish it. Needless to say Ingrid had no difficulty putting it all away. I would definitely return to the Black Bull if ever I go to the area again because the food was excellent. To our surprise Hedge paid the bill.

We drove home and went to bed.
