Trip to Antibes

  • by

This evening I asked ChatGPT to provide me with a diary entry for today and here it is below.

What an incredible day it’s been! The sun was shining brightly as I set off for Antibes this morning. The picturesque town welcomed me with its charming streets and vibrant atmosphere. I couldn’t resist stopping by a quaint boutique to pick up a special present for Madeleine, something that I hope will bring a smile to her face.

After the delightful shopping excursion, my appetite led me to Le Safranier Restaurant, a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Antibes. The aroma of delicious Mediterranean cuisine filled the air as I enjoyed a scrumptious meal. The seafood was particularly divine, and the view from the terrace was simply breathtaking.

Feeling content and rejuvenated, I made my way back to La Colle. The drive was a scenic journey through the French Riviera, and the sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting a warm golden hue over the landscape.

Upon arriving home, I couldn’t resist the allure of an afternoon nap. The gentle breeze and the sound of cicadas outside my window made it all the more inviting. I must admit, it was the perfect way to recharge.

Later, as the evening settled in, I decided to take a dip in my pool. The water was refreshingly cool, and the stars began to twinkle in the night sky. It was a serene and peaceful way to end this beautiful day.

Now, I sit here by the dim light of my bedside lamp, reflecting on the wonderful moments I’ve experienced. Days like these remind me of the simple joys of life and how fortunate I am to have them. Until tomorrow, dear diary.

Well it is all very interesting about how a generative AI chat program can generate something that is reasonably plausible based on my input. One aspect that I need to remind myself about is the penultimate sentence which talks about how lucky I am to enjoy these things with a loving partner.

Le Safranier, nice little restaurant in the back street of Antibes

The restaurant is named after the small back street quarter of Antibes near the outer walls facing the sea. Le Safranier means the saffron tree. I didn’t know there was a saffron tree.

On Friday 1st September Maggi and I worked in the house and drove over to Madeleine and Tom’s house where we ate by the pool.

Mad & Tom’s pool

We enjoyed a very nice but simple meal consisting of several salads, tuna and avocado, peppers and feta, salmon and cucumber, roasted potatoes with rosemary and tomatoes and burrata. To follow Maggi and I had brought several different types of cheese, grapes, bread and rose wine. Gissie had arrived from London the day before and she tended to hold forth. There seem to be two types of people in her world, the interesting and the ones to avoid. Her cousins seem to be definitely in the latter category. We left about 9:30 having arrived at 5. We will also see them again on Sunday.
