We sat outside our apartment after breakfast and a very smart Mercedes people carrier pulled up. We climbed in and drove the short distance to the hotel where it was all hugs and kisses. We said goodbye to Jonathan, Miriam and Marco who have a day off before the next group of holidaymakers arrive tomorrow.
I also gave a big hug to Marg and and a more sincere hug to Jamie. Everyone has appreciated Jamie’s company. He is so thoughtful in everything he does. Marg dominates him in the same way that she tries to control all around her. Whatever the conversation she has to add her penny’s worth. All the women on the vacation are fairly forceful but she really takes the biscuit. I don’t think that she is an awful person or horrible to be with, provided you acquiesced to her agenda.
We headed off on our two hour journey back towards a small resort near Chania and the airport. Jonathan had arranged for us to be dropped off at this seaside bar and restaurant. They put aside our bags and we were free to use their facilities. We all had a coffee and then enjoyed a swim in the sea except Matt who decided not to get wet.
Our lunch of Cretan Salad, Calamari, Tzatziki, Stuffed Peppers, and Moussaka was excellent value for money. The bill came to €22 per person, but this also included the coffee and plenty to drink. As part of the deal they brought a small cake and bottle of the traditional raki.

Our driver turned up on time and took us to the airport. We were far too early for the flight but the time seemed to pass quite quickly. All aboard the plane and then headed on home.
Altogether one of our best holidays. The organisation, the company, Marcos and Jonathan our guides, Myriam who provided back up services and some brilliant picnics all worked together to produce an excellent 9 day holiday in the sun with lots of exercise. On top of all that I enjoyed Greek food for the first time. All the restaurants we visited provided good quality food. We didn’t eat fancy meals but the ingredients were so fresh and well cooked in a traditional manner that everything tasted great.
At the end of our time we all discussed joining Jonathan and Miriam on another Greek island holiday next year. We’ll have to see how that works out.
