Glasgow at the new house

We slept in Adam’s office on a sofa bed, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so woke up each morning feeling that I could do with some more sleep. Maggi complained about my snoring every day. So this will be our accommodation every time we visited the family in Glasgow.

On the Saturday morning we walked down to Maxwell Park to watch Keir play football. I didn’t actually see him play because he sat on the sidelines, having scored the opening goal. Keir did return to the pitch, but by that time I’d returned to the house to help fit the back seat. We needed the extra seats so that we could all go to the Westend for lunch.

We had chosen a Persian restaurant, but not booked, and we turned up at 2:30 and they had room for our party of 8. The Saffron by Paradise provided a very good selection of kebabs plus vegetarian mezze. I stuck to the veggie options. I enjoyed what I ate. I can’t say anything better than that.

After lunch we drove home via Morrisons where Maggi bought some soil to replant the olive tree she had bought as a house warming present.

For the rest of the evening we pottered around, watched a football match and an episode Race Round the World.

Sunday

Another walk to another park. The new house, although only 15 minutes walk from the old place has a completely different character and the environment is much greener. The houses are much bigger with good sized gardens, but then there are many more green spaces  within easy reach.

The walk with Adam and Sorely took us to ….  where Sorely’s rugby club play their matches. At 10 they are still a long way from playing the game properly. His team had to borrow 4 players from the opposition. I think the opponents won but I couldn’t keep up with the scoring which resembled basketball in the frequency of scores rather than rugby.

Sorely scored a try for which he was justly proud. His handling skills are above average and he positioned himself well when tackled. Most importantly he really wanted to play and he thoroughly enjoyed playing. At half-time he ran over and desperately needed to quench his thirst.

Back to the house and a bite to eat followed by trying to resolve the issue of why water refuses to drain properly from the downstairs bathroom and the kitchen sink. Unfortunately we didn’t get anywhere and they really need a plumber.

Next up Spurs v Arsenal. The Gunners went 0-3 up in the first half despite not being the better team. The second half started with Arsenal in complete control for the first 20 minutes with some good chances. They looked like they would canter home. Then for some reason Raya passed out to a spurs player who scored. The crowd went wild hoping for a comeback, which seemed much more likely when Rice gave away a penalty.

After the match I wanted to do something and offered to walk with Keir but he didn’t want to and preferred to stay in his room and play video games. I ended up helping in the gardening clear up. Adam and Sarah have an awful lot to do to get the house up to scratch, but they have plenty of time to do it all as I don’t see them moving for a long long time.

Keir is the only one who doesn’t partake of this lovely meal. We end up in the evening watching the same episode of Race around the World again.
