Family gathering in Marylebone

  • by

Richard arrived at our house and parked round the corner. He brought with him Aida, as expected, plus Josh and his girlfriend Izzy.

We all set off for town. Some young people find it difficult to talk to someone of my age but Kosh, Izzy and I chatted very easily on the journey. I suggested that they take a look around Coal Drop Yard if they wanted some lunch and a coffee as it is a busy little spot full of shops and places to eat and drink. They accepted my idea.

Richard, Aida, Maggi and I arrived at the Coach Makers Arms just before opening and I discovered that they served Red Breast Whiskey and so I had three doubles before we even reached the restaurant. Probably a little too much for a morning session. It would have been better if I had moved on to something a little less alcoholic for the good of my liver.

Lynda and Dave arrived next and Lynda sat next to me on the end of the seat. Then along came Lucy who often turns up on these occasions. Finally just before the time appointed for our Fish and Chip lunch who should pop in but Chris. While Chris had promised to join us a few in the party thought he might not turn up. Anyway he had a pint and was in his usual jovial mood.

We walked further along Marylebone Lane to the Golden Hind Restaurant our fish and chip destination. I really enjoyed my food and ate every scrap. The fish was excellent as were the chips. Nothing fancy but good quality. I even indulged in a rhubarb crumble, which is unusual for me.

At the end of the meal I felt completely stuffed and weary. Probably caused be the excess alcohol. I said to the party that I needed to go home. On the journey back I very nearly fell asleep and only just managed to wake up at Pinner.

I really should have stayed with everyone else, but the thought of consuming anything else felt repulsive.
