Islay in London

On Tuesday evening Maggi and I drove to Terminal 5 to pick up Islay from her first solo flight to London. We arrived early so we wouldn’t miss her and of course we ended up being half-hour earlier than we ever should have been. No mind better that we waited that she waited.

When she exited I expected her to be a lot less calm and under-control than she showed. It appeared as if she flew from Glasgow to London every week.

Maggi had prepared food for when we returned but at 9:30 I felt less like eating than I would have done earlier.

Wednesday

All theee of us hung around Pinner in the morning and then headed into town and had a meal at Le Relais de Venise. We arrived around 1 pm and only waited 15 minutes before we could sit at our table.

Le Relais has more in common with a factory than a restaurant. You have no choice for starter or main course and everything arrives with speed. One senses that one should eat quickly as the waitresses rush past you.

I left Maggi and Islay after the meal and headed off home. They travelled onto the Portrait Gallery and Anita-Gelato before sitting down in the Novello Theatre to watch Mamma Mia.

I watched Race Across the World. I thought this episode had a lot of charm. Several contestants opened up about the issues they have faced on the past, and with their companion. The program’s charm centre’s around two aspects, the adventurous places and the people. The people become interesting when they open up and tell you their story.

Thursday

In the morning Islay and I walked to Northwood, via the Celandine, Haste Hill and Northwood Golf Clubs and then along Linksway.

In the afternoon Maggi took off to town with Islay and I drove to see Steve Weiman and keep him company for a couple of hours. Khin had an operation on her knee last Wednesday and could already climb the stairs albeit with a crutch.

The evening I drove Pat to Sobell Bridge club where we came last.

Friday

Maggi worried about the projected journey of Islay into town on her own to meet a friend in Covent Garden. On Maggi’s advice I accompanied her by train. I left her a few minutes before her friend arrived. I didn’t want to embrace her with the thought that she needed to be chaperoned.

While in Convent Garden I bought a pair of walking shorts for our trip to Greece.

I returned home via the place where Grzegorz was working. He had come round to fix the roof and also to work on our soffit board and guttering earlier in the week. I made this journey to Pay him in cash.

At 6pm the cab arrived to take us to the airport for the journey up to Scotland.
