River walk and return to Preveza

Thursday morning we left Dias Hotel and Little Papingo behind. Nothing changed, the two brothers laid out the breakfast table in silence. Exactly the same food appeared from the fridge accompanied by the same question, “Coffee?”  Maggi and I smiled at the thought of never returning. we both felt relief as we left our uncomfortable room for the last time and carried our cases to the coach.

We drove a short distance to the start of the walk which would take us beside a fast rushing river and lead to our lunch time venue. The Voidomatis River trail took us up and down clinging close to the river , but often requiring us to climb over rocks and then descend back to the bank.

We stopped along the way and Jonathan encouraged us all to swim in the river. I tried but I found the cold water excruciatingly painful and quickly ran back to the bank. Maggi stayed in the water a little longer than me, but didn’t actually swim. Fiona and others did immerse themselves in the freezing water and claimed afterwards that the whole experience refreshed both body and soul.

Fiona, much better than me braving the icy cold waters

We eventually arrived at the lunch stop where we had the house speciality of grilled trout, we all presumed it came from the river.

We now had the long and tedious coach journey back to Preveza. The air conditioning on the bus could only be described as hopeless. Maggi and sat on the back seat and it was like an oven for the 3 hour drive.

We arrived at our Preveza Hotel called The Captain’s House a recently refurbished home for 3 nights with decent beds, proper air conditioning and a comfortable room.

First thing we needed was a shower to remove the journeys sweat. In the evening Fiona, Mark, Maggi and I wandered around looking for a place to eat. We ended up at the same eatery as Jonathan and his group of six. The same establishment we had visited the previous Sunday for our early lunch.
