Sorely’s Birthday

After welcoming Sorely down for breakfast with the traditional birthday song we set off for Deer Lake.

Dancing Trees in the morning

Swimming in Deer Lake

Deer Lake has the great advantage in that we can arrive there in 10 minutes. The only other people at the jetty were two fishermen who returned with a catch of a medium sized trout that one of them proposed to cook.

Sarah jumped in the water first and started swimming. I’m always dubious about cold water, but I remember from 2 years ago that I could bear water temperature. I paddled and then completed the immersion with only a minor shock to the system.

Just away from the shore lies a floating platform from which the kids love to jump. I helped to push Sadie and Finn in the water and then jumped in myself. I swam out to the edge of the swimming area defined by some floating buoys and then returned and left the water. Maggi also swam a little.

Both of us dried off and then we, with Adam drove to the local supermarket for some extra provisions. We returned to Deer Lake to pick up a few more of the party and then home to Dancing Trees.

Adam and Sarah made a pasta with a tomato sauce for lunch with salad.

Afternoon

We had given the kids money for their birthdays and they were anxious to spend it. Alex took them all off to Langley. This left Adam, Maggi and myself at home with Greg. Greg said he was working but disappeared before 3 pm to go for a run and buy a bottle of bourbon .

Maggi and Adam wanted to go out and I relented. We looked up a small book on local trails and picked one nearby. We drove to the end of Possession Road parked the car and ended up on the coast. We could only explore a small patch of the beach as the signs declared the beach and foreshore private property.

We did touch a bit of the 3 mile trail but we ran out of time. All back in the car and back to Dancing Trees.

In the evening we sang Happy Birthday again
