Family Gathering in Welby

  • by

Saturday after lunch Maggi and I set off for Chris’s house in Welby. The village sits a few miles outside Grantham just inside Lincolnshire with a few rolling hills as you approach from the A1 but flatlands to the east.

Richard and Aida had already arrived when we turned up and we sat in the garden enjoying the autumn sun sipping a cup of tea. Soon William and Joanne knocked on the door and the whole company had assembled.

William pointed out that he hadn’t seen us since 2019 when we all gathered together in Beverly in 2019. Despite the 7 year break it seemed as if we just continued along with a conversation we hadn’t quite finished.

Walk and Pub

The boys decided that a short walk should take place after we had finished our tea and so Richard, Chris, William and I set off eastwards down the track opposite Chris’s house. We tramped along chatting for about 24 minutes and then returned the way we had come.

We didn’t need a vote to convince anyone that our next stop should be The Crown and Anchor for an early evening refreshment. Three drinks later we popped back to The Old Chapel home of Chris and Linda.

The girls had prepared the table and it wasn’t long before we all sat down for the evening meal. Linda had worked hard to prepare the food for the nights gathering. Chris’s contribution seemed to be much less.

The evening

We ate, we talked and we played music. The evening disappeared very quickly drowned in a cacophony of noise as the brothers became louder and louder as the evening progressed. This perhaps due to the increasing amount of alcohol that fuelled their tongues.

Chris and Linda have a whole range of drinks that wouldn’t go amiss in a fancy cocktail bar. Maggi tasted some rum that she disclaimed and past it on to me. I didn’t like it much either but I managed to put it down my throat.

Bed time and home

I disappeared upstairs for bed around about midnight. The others followed I don’t know when. I slept through Maggi’s arrival. The next morning Joanne said that the boys came to rest their heads at 2:45. Unbelievably they all seemed very cheery for breakfast.

We ate our breakfast and gathered our things and left about 11 having had a jolly good time.

The car made it back home without needing any extra charge on the battery during the journey.
