Just like yesterday we left our apartment for breakfast and crossed the road to the clothes market to the same bar. Today the weather had deteriorated. The rain came and went but our host made sure we had a large umbrella under which we could have our croissant and coffee.
Matt had booked the cab for 9 am. We packed our bags made sure the Airbnb remained in reasonable condition with the keys on the table and closed the door. As we stepped outside I noticed the great number of locks to hold the step-through door.
We stood in Piazza Nolana with the old buildings all around us. One the corner sat the bar where on our first evening we had tried but failed to be served a decent drink. We had witnessed people gathering for the funeral of Antonio Salzano a 72 year old man at the church next door. In the corner of the square women chatted outside the hairdresser’s smoking a cigarette while they waited for their appointment. The people around us busy as bees conducting their everyday life while we waited for the taxi
We waited for the taxi. It didn’t show up at 9 am, it still hadn’t arrived at 9:15. By 9:20 we all started to become anxious. Eventually Matt managed to get inn touch with the taxi company and the driver appeared at 9:30.
Naples airport is fairly close to the city centre. Without traffic the journey would take about 20 minutes, however, we hit a nasty little jam close to the airport which held up for 15 minutes. Our flight Our scheduled departure time set for 11;25 so even with all the delay we still had to wait around once we had cleared security and immigration.
Naples Airport doesn’t have a BA lounge so we sat in the overcrowded non-Shengen area. When called we walked to our BA flight and took off slightly late.
The end of the holiday.
