An early start this morning with Maggi waking me just before six. She takes responsibility even when I am going away. She has agreed to drive both Garry and I to the airport and here she is waking me rather than the other way round. Quite incredible.
Heathrow Terminal 2
Our Austrian Airlines flight leaves from Terminal 2. This terminal has recently had a refurbishment and looks brand new. The brand new scanners meant we skipped through security so quickly it hardly seemed we slowed down. Not having silver membership for Austrian Air means buying food and fighting for an uncomfortable seat.
I wonder how many people try and wash their feet in a hand basin at Terminal 2. Never happens at Terminal 5.
We arrived in Vienna airport slightly ahead of schedule and as we exited all the formalities there stood Nick to greet us. We took a taxi to our Hotel, Pension Nossek. A friendly greeting from the receptionist who provided us with our room keys 10 minutes later. So far everything running smoothly.
Afternoon in Vienna
In the afternoon we left the hotel for a bite to eat in a small cafe just off the main drag outside the hotel. We then did our only touristic bit by visiting St Stephen’s Cathedral. The area around the church swarmed with tourists and we slowly shuffled in. Both Jon and I said Wow as we entered and realised the enormity of the building with its Towering ceiling and pillars. Quite a sight to behold. After touring the free part of the church we stepped back out into the sunshine and wandered aimlessly around stopping for a coffee at one of the many independent cafes and discussed the state of the world.

In the evening we had a very average meal in a restaurant without any atmosphere at all. The waiters spent all their time rushing from one table to another, clearing off the plates, washing down the tables. I ordered Veal Schnitzel which was dry a bone.
