2nd July on Whidbey

  • by

Greg has descended to the forest area of our property. Maggi has left with Alex and Bennett for a walk and Adam is about to enter the hot tub. While I write today’s diary update Sarah is posting her version of today’s events on Facebook, instagram and all the other social media sites she frequents..

Greg is in charge of Hunger Games with Carrie, Sadie, Finn, Sorely and Keir. It is a paradise for the kids. They are all running around the forest area below the main property. I walked down there again this evening to watch them all running around having fun.

First thing this morning Greg and I went down to the local supermarket and bought further supplies for this evening’s meal.

After we returned all the adults except Greg set off for the ferry to Port Townsend. The ferry port on Whidbey is a fairly derelict spot. A couple of shacks and a car park is all that’s there.

Last of the incoming vehicles leave as we wait to head to Port Townsend

The ferry trip across to Port Townsend takes about 40 minutes. We dumped the car and crossed as foot passengers.

On the other side is a tourist town with several historic buildings, by American standards. We walked along the Main Street and down to the local small boat port. All very twee in comparison to a big city. We only stayed in Port Townsend for 90 minutes. The next ferry after 2 pm would be 2 hours later.

We came back and relieved Greg who had looked after all the kids except Islay from 11 am until nearly 4 pm.

A meat feast on the barbecue that Greg  created left us all full. The next step was the adventure in the forest for the kids, a play in the hot tub for Adam and Islay, a quiet read for Sarah and a walk with Bennett for Maggi and Alex.
