I started in the morning and drove over to pick up Bernard and take him to the Two Brewers in Chipperfield. We sat down in our usual seats by the window. I usually ask him what he has been up to recently and invariably the subject of Covent Garden comes to his mind. He either has loved the recent trip or deplored it because the production has deviated from his preferred approach. If the directed has tried to modernised the dress or the scenery then he is appalled by it an hates it.
Today I brought up the subject of Ai and I opened up ChatGPT on my phone. I asked him what he would like to ask the AI bot. Hs response, how to live to 200. This led onto other things and kept the conversation ,moving about how to look after yourself.
Maggi and I had a quick lunch and then we headed off to Watford Apple Centre where we bought two of the new iPhone17s. I had more or less transferred all the data from my old phone to the new while Maggi walked to the shops and back. However there remained much more to do as a lot of the apps had to be disconnected from my old apple id and the financial stuff had more configuration. Despite this when we left the house I took my new phone with me.
The Metropolitan Line has had problems recently with points issues at Baker St. This meant we could only travel as far as Wembley Park where we had to change to the Jubilee Line which takes a lot longer to get into town. We had booked Ronnie Scott’s for the 5:30 performance. We arrived just after 5:30 and a queue had already formed.
Ronnie Scott’s
We didn’t know who we would see. It turned out that Julius Rodriguez would light up the stage. Although we sat down around 5:50 Julius would not begin until 6:30. We ordered food and drinks and as per our order two hamburger’s arrived. I had a beer while Maggi initially ordered a glass of red wine and followed this up with a Margarita.
The band came on stage at the slotted time and played very well. Some of their tracks I liked much more than others. Julius’s band consisted of Julius on keyboards with a very good drummer and bass player. This trio was supplemented by a trumpeter and saxophonist (who played on two numbers). All of them excellent musicians. I like a bit of structure to my music so al to of it I enjoyed but when they go off into long winded solos with nothing to do with the underlying framework of the song then I am not so happy. Julius was probably the guiltiest of this.
Altogether I enjoyed the show and the evening out. We left at 7:50 so the band dint play for that long and the whole event cost £180 for 2 hours entertainment.
