First serious walk on Andros

  • by

This morning we took a short bus trip partially up the hillside and Adonis dropped us off at a lay-by. The figure of Adonis that stood before us is unlikely to get the girls swooning. He has a neck like a professional weightlifter but the body of Billy Bunter. I couldn’t tell if his ginger beard and hair had been dyed or was natural.

The weather although sunny didn’t burn the skin drenched you in sweat. We had plenty of drinks stops as we climbed and descended and climbed again about 4 times.

We eventually dropped down on the road to a taverna that stood above a very pretty cove. The same type of food served before us with the exception of the fried sardines. Maggi, Matt and I decided to take the taxi home from the beach rather than walk another 5 km up and down.

We arrived back just after 4 the non taxi people came in at 6.

After a little siesta and a read Maggi and I prepared to go back to town to meet up for dinner. We picked up Matt on the way and had a very poor gin and tonic before everyone arrived.

We ate the best meal so far at a restaurant called Steps, which unsurprisingly was set on a series of steps on a side alley off the main street of Xora. Some tasty dishes arrived one after the other until all of couldn’t eat anything else. Mark summed it up when he said I feel pregnant.

Greek yogurt and honey, what a way to finish the meal
