Foundation Maeght & Best Lunch

  • by

Maeght

Monday’s big event, a trip up the road to Foundation Maeght. Adam had told us that the foundation had an exhibition of Barbara Hepworth on and we decided we would like to see it. The site with all the Miro sculptures, the architecture and setting always make a visit here enjoyable.

After lunch we set off and arrived found it easy to park in the relatively small parking area. We paid our €18 and wandered up the path passing a Mireo and other sculptures on the lawn. We entered the building and made our way around the the Hepworth show. Unfortunately we turned the wrong way. Instead of beginning at the start of her career we started towards the end of it.

While there we also saw a Pierre Bonnard from the foundation’s permanent collection.

I found I wanted to touch and feel the Hepworth sculptures they seemed to have a very emotional content and I don’t know why. Perhaps she could connect with some of our primeval feelings.

Best Lunch

On Tuesday Jilly and David Best came over for lunch. They had been due to join Mads and Tom and Clare and Martyn for lunch back in July, but unfortunately Jilly’s mum died shortly before that event. Luckily they happened to be staying at their place in Tourette while we were still in La Colle. Maggi made a lovely meal with a fig salad as a starter and Tagliata as the main course (which is a type of salad made with steps of beef). All eaten with relish.

We had a few laughs and played beat the intro. They left around 5 pm which says something as they arrived at 1 pm.
