Another short walk to the bus for a trip up into the hills. All the walks on Andros have been numbered. Today we followed route 9. Jonathan said this path took men and goods from Xora to Gravio.
Our journey took us up to the summit and down to Paliopolos where we had lunch. Jonathan had warned us that the walk down would be quite difficult, but I think he exaggerated the problem.

The weather had changed from yesterday and we tramped both up and down with overcast skies. We reached 650 metres and nearly entered the clouds. Despite the cloud cover the wind remained warm and I still sweated on the journey.

We visited a small archaeological museum in the small town and then sat down to eat at The Kiosk, a small restaurant at the side of the main road between Xora and Gravio. The place specialised in a type of Spanish omelette. Before the big dish came the normal Greek salad and a couple of side dishes. All very good.
Maggi and I took the easy option after lunch and returned to the hotel with Myriam. From reports by Matt, Mark etc this proved to be a good option. The loop down to the beach was a bit of a waste of time and way too hot.
In the evening we watched a Greek film called Little England at a private showing in Xora town centre. The film lasted almost 3 hours with sub-titles. I didn’t expect to stay away long enough but it held my attention.
The story about a family where one daughter is denied to marry the love of her life because he is poor, but then becomes rich and as a result marries the sister. The hero dies at sea and the heroine blurts out her love and the whole family is torn asunder. The heroine dies shortly after of a broken heart.
We all had a lot to say about the film 90% positive. The only negative to come up was that the second half of the film dragged a bit.
