This was probably our laziest day of our time on Whidbey. Maggi and I set off for the Goose Supermarket early. We had a premonition that we would face a busy store if we delayed.
I persuaded Maggi to go with tacos for our evening meal. She started with that idea and then changed her mind to something more complicated we ended with the simpler tacos.
After the two of us had roamed the aisles for our supper, lunch and a few general provisions we had spent £240, which did include 3 bottles of wine and two pies costing £40.
We returned slightly shell shocked by our purchases and had lunch. Greg promised to take the kids to Fort Casey after 2:30 when he had finished his work for the day. However that meant the adults couldn’t do anything until after 2:30.
However Alex scooted off in order to indulge herself with 1 hour’s worth of massage. Greg dragged Adam along to help with the kids.
Maggi, Sarah and I then left for Procession Beach and the start of the Dorothy Cleveland Trail. The trail took us up the side of the escarpment within the forest area. When we arrived at the top we could only see the trees. Apparently in the winter the view stretched out to the mainland across the sound.

The book described the trail as ‘challenging’ which I found a bit of an exaggeration. We climbed the hill quite easily although we did stop a couple of times for the odd breather.
On our way back the three of us stopped off at Ogres bar for a pint of IPA or cider for the girls. The place had a certain dishevelled character. The barman stood in front of a short bar his stomach extruding standing in a dirty t-shirt and grubby calf-length pants.
A couple of Alsatians with bewitching and unnerving blue eyes wandered about the place. The other customers stood around and chatted. We sat outside on your typical bar table and bench and drank. One of the weird alsatians came to check out Bennett, but our Bennet showed no interest.
In the evening Maggi and I put the tacos, chicken, steak, guacamole, salsa and soured cream on the table for people to make their own meal. We had plenty to begin with and nothing left at the end. I’m assuming everyone liked the food, even the kids.
Greg took the children off to play hunger games and having fixed the tv earlier in the day we put Sideways on. Only I remained until the end of the film which I thoroughly enjoyed. The two main characters are both flawed in completely different ways, while they both pass through a type of rites of passage.
