Off to Mykonos with the Rileys

  • by

The group splits up today with The Rileys accompanying us to Mykonos for our flight home on the following day. Others are travelling to different parts of Greece for further holiday adventures.

When we gathered together to say our goodbyes a slight dispute arose on how to interpret the SplitWise account. Clare and Marg had spent time trying to figure out how best to sort the divisions. Others had used the app itself. With two such forceful women fighting their corner there was no doubt which way the argument would fall.

Myriam, our saviour again, took us to the ferry port with Fiona and Mark following on. The short ferry ride dropped us at the new port of Mykonos.  The ferry was dwarfed by a cruise ship which looked like it contain more than 3000 passengers. Even more concerning we could also see another three liners parked offshore.

A pleasant taxi driver took us to our hotel outside of Mykonos town. A really pleasant surprise when we arrived with a very friendly staff. The hotel looked modern, tastefully decorated and a very cordial reception. Hotel Argo what a good beginning.

The village where we are staying has very little to offer apart from a beach, lots of beachside restaurants, plus a few other eating establishments. After that you’ll find a small general store, a beauty parlor and a bakery.

We sauntered down the road that peters out  at the beach and chose the restaurant associated with the hotel. A nice lunch of salads and other bits and bobs, tasty and good value.

Back to the hotel for a bit of reading, game playing and shut eye. Next on the agenda a quick swim.

In the evening we walked up the road to a taverna that had good reviews. When we arrived I wasn’t sure that there would be enough room for us, which is usually a good sign. However, none of us thought much of our dinner. We returned to the hotel after a brief promenade and watched England lose to Greece 1-2 at Wembley.
