Picnic in Discovery Park

We woke up at 5:30 to a screaming Sorely running around the house. His shouting meant everyone rose exceptionally early, except Alex and Greg.

Maggi, Keir, Islay and myself walked to Safeway on Queen Anne Ave to buy bits and pieces for a picnic lunch. I’m getting used to climbing the hill up to the Queen Anne plateau. Maybe my legs are growing stronger as I age, but I doubt that.

After buying the very ordinary food on offer at very high prices we wandered over to Starbucks for a coffee. As I ordered Keir whispered to Maggi that he had left his phone on the trolley. They both ran back and fortunately they found it quickly.

The kids had these awful sweet and colourful drinks meant to contain fruit. I doubt they contain much else than corn syrup and chemicals. I whatsapp’ed Alex and asked her to pick us up on her way back from yoga. She, did and at the same time ordered a coffee via the Starbucks app. How life has changed.

We set off in three cars to Discovery Park with a load of food for 12 people. Soon after our arrival we sat down on the grass and ate the sandwiches while different members of the group played football or played catching games.

We moved on and soon stopped again, this time for a photo opportunity and to eat the fruit. Greg suggested he take the children home where they could set up a stand to sell lemon juice. I think it was just an excuse to go home and watch the Seattle Sounders on the telly.

We walked on had some biscuits and then Islay, Alex, Adam diverted off towards the beach. Maggi and I decided to take a tour of the park.

We returned home. The children made $70 between them. I think they charged $5 a drink and biscuit.

Adam and Sarah cooked a spaghetti bolognaise. By 8:30 I was exhausted and headed off to bed. Maggi stayed up for a little longer, while the others watched The Bear. I could hear the noise of the tv in our bedroom it sounded just like families arguing with each other.
