Prepare to leave and off to Maçon

Lost glasses

We spent Wednesday clearing up and preparing for our trip back home. Our one small treat occurred in the late afternoon when we drove down to the Villeneuve-Loubet Plage for a quick swim.

We had our swim and lazed on the beach to mostly dry off. We then gathered our things and I mentioned that I didn’t have my reading glasses. Maggi saw them on the ground. I presumed that she then picked them up.

When I arrived back at La Colle I found the glasses remained missing. We had a short shouting match where we both blamed each other for the spectacles not being around. I then drove back to the beach and luckily found them. A group of women now sat where we had laid, and they pointed out the glasses lying beside them.

Thursday and journey to Macon

We set off for our return to the UK. a few days before we had booked the hotels for the two nights we would be on the road. The first stop we had decided to stop at a hotel just outside Macon called La Huchette. I topped up the car to 95% and we set off

We arrived in Orange for our first stop and a cup of coffee at a Greet Hotel very close to the charge point. We drove on and had one more stop where we ate our picnic lunch. At last we drove into the grounds of La Huchette with still 31% charge left in the tank. I parked up and dragged my suitcase across the rough ground to the home.

La Huchette

The receptionist had a cheery greeting and carried our bags up the stairs to our room, a spacious affair on the first floor.

The room had a large double bed, a separate wc and a well proportioned bathroom. All very acceptable. The view fro the window looked out over the hotel grounds and the swimming pool. The long drive meant we didn’t want to go anywhere so we settled down until the tie for the evening meal and what a meal.

The meal

The hotel restaurant had one Michelin Star. We began with with some interesting little canopies which tasted delicious. The Amuse Bouche arrived next, a soup with a mussel in batter, again excellent. A little later the starter. I had chosen the egg with salad, the actual name was however much more sophist aced. I loved this too. The main course, Monkfish maintained the same high standard as everything else we had eaten.

We thought the meal had ended, but just as we stood up to leave the waitress came over and told we had more due, even though we hadn’t order a dessert. The unordered pudding seemed like another amuse bouche, but a sweet version.

By the time we returned to the room we slumped across the bed fully stuffed.
