Met up with Mad, Tom, Jilly and David Best at Spelt Restaurant in Tourette-sur-Loup.
We hadn’t seen Jilly and David for more than 2 ½ years. I always enjoy their company and we’ve had many meals together with Mad & Tom. However we’ve never been to the same restaurant twice as a six some.
The conversation is all very light but lively.
The relatively small restaurant packs a big punch with flavour. The 3 course lunch menu costs €29. There were 2 choices for starter, 2 main and 2 dessert. The portions were not big but adequate.
I had the oeuf dish with mushrooms and various other flavours in a bowl. The main course was something I wouldn’t normally choose, pigs cheek. Again it was excellent and I finished with creme caramel. Without doubt it was the best creme caramel I have ever tasted. It had subtlety I had never experienced in this desert.
After meeting at 12:45 we said goodbye to one another at 3:30. We did a bit of shopping and then returned to La Colle.
Had a nice remainder of the afternoon with the family. We had agreed to babysit and the kids were very well behaved all evening. The even went to bed without a struggle.
I had a proper two way conversation with Islay. It was very rewarding.
